Advent in the villages
The villages embody the traditions of Christmas and are an ideal starting point for many excursions and a stay during Advent in the Palatinate wine region - from the historic town of Neustadt to Hambach, Diedesfeld, Duttweiler, Geinsheim, Gimmeldingen, Haardt and Königsbach, Lachen-Speyerdorf or Mußbach: Each wine village has its own individual authenticity with wine cellars, restaurants and decorated streets and alleys which invite you to dream of Christmas.
Diedesfeld
The Christmas market in Diedesfeld, a typical wine village nestling in a sea of vines, will be held on the church square around the Remigius fountain. In addition to a raffle, Christmas carols and other musical events, you can buy home-made decorations for your Christmas tree. Christmas treats and mulled wine at the festively-decorated stands and thus sweeten your visit to this Christmas market.
Duttweiler
The Duttweilerer Christmas market takes place at the Winery Bress. Together with hot drinks, waffles and light meals, all kinds of different Christmas specialities are on offer: Advent and door wreaths, unusual Christmas decorations, little witch houses as well as beautiful woodwork items.
If you prefer a small and cosy Christmas market accompanied with fine delicacies, this is the right place for you! The highlight for the kids: Santa Claus is coming with a lot of presents.
Geinsheim
The youth choir "Cantemus" heralds the beginning of Advent in the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Geinsheim. The choir practices regularly, every Wednesday, in preparation for this event.
Gimmeldingen
Gimmeldingen is well-worth visiting, not only during the almond blossom. Especially during Advent, it is a fascinating experience to stroll through this idyllic village, to admire the beautifully-decorated streets and stop for a meal at one of the numerous local taverns. During the Christmas season, wineries and restaurants invite you to enjoy a hearty Christmas meal, a wine tasting or other enjoyable surprises.
Haardt
The Haardter Advent invites you to an atmospheric Christmas market with handcrafted and homemade specialties, designed to spoil your palate. In addition to freshly roasted coffee, homemade cakes, homemade soup and sausage, there will be mulled wine and kids' drinks.
Half-timbered houses from the 18th century, baroque houses with ornate stonework together with stately wineries form a historical backdrop for this Christmas Market.
Particularly beautiful in winter is the Haardter Schlössel with its Schlossberg. In addition to arts and crafts for adults, the kids are also not forgotten! Children can actively make pottery, forge, and make Father Christmas figures out of chocolate.
Hambach
The Hambacher Christkindlmarkt takes place in the idyllic wine village of Hambach, in and around the "Alte Rathausl" and "Herr'schen Hof". It features music from the young brass band of the Kolpingkapelle Hambach, the trombone choir of Hambach-Winzingen and a performance of the local children's folk dance group.
30 exhibitors display their handicrafts, together with homemade treats such as honey or chocolate specialties and great Christmas decorations.
On the first weekend of Advent, children can learn the art of baking in a bakery or display their arts and crafts on the 2nd Advent weekend. This Christmas market, of course, cannot take place without Father Christmas ! from whom “well-behaved” children will get their Christmas present on December 4th ....
Königsbach
Königsbach heralds in the Christmas season with an atmospheric concert of Christmas music performed by the local music club. In addition to numerous Christmas celebrations in the parish hall, the Weinland Königsbach (wine-grower's cooperative) organizes a mulled wine festival for the whole family. With Christmas live music, sweet pastries and mulled wine, St. Nicholas' Day will be a very special experience.
Lachen Speyerdorf
In Lachen-Speyerdorf the "Weisheits Weihnachtszirkus" invites you all, for the 10th time, to visit an event to marvel at and experience the Christmas feeling. With acrobatics, fire-eaters, horse dressage and even crocodiles this Christmas circus has something for everyone. A Christmas atmosphere is guaranteed!
Mußbach
On the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of Advent, visitors can enjoy festively decorated and illuminated houses in Mussbach with Christmas cookies, handicrafts, jewelry, art, games, books and gift ideas. Of course there is mulled wine, hot food and other culinary treats at the Christmas stalls and in the church café. There is a large nativity scene in the chancellery of St. John's Church.
